Welcoming a New Board Member

When Sisters for Peace Founder Caroline Wheeler visited NCO’s projects on the ground in Tanzania, she was instantly hooked. Caroline heartily threw herself into the mix in Karatu.

She was so hooked, in fact, that NCO’s staff knew straight away they needed her high interest and expertise.

She readily agreed to join our board shortly after arriving home. NCO is joyed to welcome such a qualified, enthusiastic and knowledgeable woman to the team.

Wheeler’s nonprofit organization, Sisters for Peace, works to empower disadvantaged women and children in the United States and worldwide. She said it was “awesome” to be able to visit Tanzania with NCO and amazing to be a part of it.

“This past March, Sisters for Peace had the extraordinary opportunity to travel with NCO and see with our own eyes the profound, life-changing work they’re doing for the Maasai people in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area,” Wheeler explained.

“What struck me most was how impoverished the people are—how tough life is living in these conditions, especially for the women and children. Our hearts were deeply touched by the Maasai people that we met and especially by the work that NCO is doing.”

So along with her passion, Wheeler will contribute expertise she has from running her own nonprofit organization toward growing ours. Previously a social worker, Wheeler left corporate work in 2011 to start what was initially a small giving circle.

“I decided I wanted to do something in the world,” she said. And do something she did. Sisters for Peace continued to grow as people caught on to the various, life-changing work the organization was doing. Caroline has an immediately-likeable personality and gives off an instant vibe of interest, empathy, passion and love. NCO embraces Caroline and is very glad to have her on the board, lending advice, raising money and breathing fresh zeal into our work.
